Aérea Negrot
IN LOVING MEMORY...

Aérea Negrot was a multi-talented singer-producer-DJ-composer-performer whose artistic journey was as unique and intricate as her name. Her music defied easy categorization, blending technoid grooves, operatic vocals, and abstracted pop into her own distinctive style. As a studio producer, vocalist, trained ballet dancer, and DJ, she not only commanded the stage but also harnessed the means of production, allowing her various talents to merge into a delightfully eccentric and personality-rich experience. Aérea Negrot embraced the future while honoring tradition, leaving her mark on the music world.

From her debut in 1999, Aérea's career culminated in the release of her full-length artist album, "Arabxilla," on BPitch Control in 2011. The Guardian aptly described it as "an atmospheric house and techno record with Weimar cabaret interludes and jazzy inflections," earning praise for its sublime qualities. Aérea's Venezuelan heritage and Berlin roots, with excursions elsewhere, enriched her work, resulting in what Germany's Zeit labeled "Disco Esperanto." Vogue Paris hailed "Arabxilla" as both "burning and icy," drawing comparisons to Klaus Nomi and Grace Jones. U.S. magazine Magnet crowned it as their #1 electronic album of the year. Aérea Negrot's performances spanned from the iconic Berghain nightclub to the Sydney Opera House, captivating audiences in diverse settings.

In her own words, Aérea Negrot's music wasn't from the heart or the brain; it was "from the liver." Following "Arabxilla," she continued to share her creative energy by remixing tracks for various artists. Alongside her solo work, Aérea embarked on remarkable collaborations, most notably with Hercules & Love Affair. Her connection with frontman Andy Butler at an Antony & the Johnsons concert in Berlin in 2005 led to a longstanding collaboration. Aérea contributed her vocals to several tracks on the band's 2011 album "Blue Songs." She also lent her voice to tobias.'s "Bending Over Backwards" on Ostgut Ton Records in the following year. Her studio sessions extended to artists like Matias Aguayo, Miguel Toro, Billie Ray Martin, System of Survival, and Massimiliano Pagliara for duets and collaborations.

Aérea Negrot's creative spirit radiated from the DJ booth, studio, and concert stage, allowing her artistic essence to - burst all directions, like from the nozzle of a spray bottle….

While she may no longer be with us, her enduring legacy in the world of music will continue to inspire and captivate.
